Shilparamam, as part of the on-going All India Crafts Mela from 16th to 31st December, is organising a Kathak dance ballet, Leela Madhavam, by Sanjay Kumar Joshi & the students of Sandhya Arts Academy today, the 7th day. The ballet is choreographed, written and directed by Sanjay Kumar Joshi.
Leela Madhavam is a 1-hour ballet based on Lord Krishna's early life, and comprises of Sri Krishna Janma, Makhan Chori, Kalia Mardhana, Holi, Jaideva Ashtapadi, and finally, the Radha Tarana. This ballet will be presented by a famous Kathak dancer Sanjay Kumar Joshi and a team of 12 dancers from Sandhya Arts Academy - Nanda Kishore Chawla, Laxman, Kumara Swamy, Ashwini, Rashmi, Mithuna, Vaibhavi, Vaidehi, Divija and Master Varun. The accompanying orchestra for the ballet is Prakash and Ratnam Raju on vocals, Nandu on the sitar, Gajanand on the Swaramandal and Anand on the tabla.
Sandhya Arts Academy was established by Uma Naidu at Moti Nagar in 1982. Various forms of Indian dances - Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Odissi and Manipuri - in addition to Carnatic music and theater are taught here. There are about 200 students learning here currently. The students of the institute have performed in Vizag, Rajahmundry, Delhi, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Singapore, and for the European Telugu Association.
