Aalapana is felicitating senior actress Jamuna Ramana Rao with a Bangaru Kankanam (golden bracelet), on completion of 70 years, on 30th August, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. On this occasion, a musical nite featuring some memorable hits of Jamuna is being organised by Aalapana, in which semi-professional singers like A Sharada Reddy, Sunita Balaji, Amalapuram Kanna Rao, Muralidhar and A Ajetha will participate. The orchestra will be assisted by Brahmanandam and Srikanth on the keyboards, Nagaraju on the tabla, Dattatreya on the flute and Phanibhushan on the rhythm pads.
Jamuna needs no introduction to vintage Telugu movie lovers. She has starred in about 198 memorable movies, debuting with Dr. Raja Rao's Puttillu in 1952. She has acted with all renowned actors of those days, like NTR, ANR, Kanta Rao, Harnath, Jaggaiah and S V Ranga Rao. In 1983, she joined politics with the Congress Party and got elected to the Lok Sabha from Rajahmundry. After the demise of Rajiv Gandhi, she quit the Congress and is now with the BJP.
The chief guest for the evening is V S Ramadevi, Ex. Governor of Karnataka, and the evening will be presided over by Gnanpeeth and Padmabhushan awardee Dr. C Narayana Reddy. The event will be inaugurated by senior actor Gummadi Venkateshwara Rao, and the Jyothi Prajwalana (lighting of lamp) will be by Dr. Shobha Naidu, Kuchipudi dancer. Founding members of various cultural associations, including R V Ramana Murthy (Kalavedika), Dr. M K Ramu (Rasamayi), Maddali Raghuram (Kinnera Art Theatres), K K Raja (Chaitanya Art Theatres), Y K Nageshwara Rao (Yuvakalavahini), Sanjay Kishore (Sangam Academy), N Muralidhar (Sapta Swaramalika), Ch Venkateshwara Rao (Archana Cultural association), Rajyalakshmi (Ragasaptaswaram), and Vamsee Ramaraju (Vamsee Art Theatres), will be presenting their wishes to Jamuna.
