The best cricket in the country is now happening in one of the best stadiums in the country, in, ahem, one of the best cities in the country! The Ranji Trophy Elite Group B cricket match between hosts Hyderabad and visitors Bengal will be played from 2nd to 5th January, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal.
Hyderabad, to be captained by Anirudh Singh, looks strong after their first victory in their previous outing against Mumbai. Their batsmen, namely in-form D Vinay Kumar and wicket keeper Khaleel Ibrahim, played with responsibility and got some valuable runs. But it is the bowlers like Alfred Absolem, M P Arjun and Pragyan Ojha who have been doing a wonderful job, striking at regular intervals and not allowing the opposition batsmen to build big partnerships.
Bengal is being captianed by ex-Indian wicket keeper Deep Dasgupta. The team has been doing exceptionally good this season, having beaten a stronger team like Punjab. Their batsmen, including the captain and seniors like Rohan Gavaskar and A A Jhunjhunwala, have been scoring consistently. In the bowling department, Ranadeb Bose and S S Sarkar are the ones to be wary of. Ranadeb has been striking regularly, and is one of the leading wicket-takers in this competition.
With the absence of Laxman in the Hyderabad team, and Ganguly in the Bengal team, both teams look balanced, but it is Bengal that enjoys a slight edge in the batting. So a keen contest is anticipated in this match.
