In Vedic times every element of nature had its own demi-god protecting it. Today everything has a Society. While most people might use a box of rocks to describe stupidity, The Society To Save Rocks has its own, well articulated reasons to appreciate their quiet forbearing presence. In hot competition with the exhibition of the Nizam's rocks, the Society is organising an Enviro-Mela and you are invited. This one is going to be a rather...err... rocking affair, with pretty much every nature-preservation society having a presence. On the agenda on February 19th, 2006, from 1100 hrs onwards, are:
Rockwalks
Birdwatching
Snake Shows
Plays
Puppy Adoption
Quizzes
Competitions
Film Shows
Skits
Food & Fun
Also showcasing their cause are:
AP Birdwatchers' Society
Centre for Environmental Education
Nori Art And Puppetry Centre
Friends Of Snakes
AP Pollution Control Board
Cerena Foundation
WWF Andhra Pradesh
Forum For A Better Hyderabad
Blue Cross
The venue for the event is National Institute For Tourism And Hospitality Management, Gachibowli, Near Maulana Azad National Urdu University. The club welcomes everybody to join but requests them to come wearing some sensible shoes, a cap and long pants, and carry a water bottle. The membership fees vary from Rs. 100 for students to Rs. 1,000 for corporates, and the proceeds of such walks are being utilized to fund projects which will help save nature's architectural wonders and also to organize concerts for the spread of awareness of the importance of saving rocks.
