This Sunday, Shilparamam could be the perfect family outing - your kids are ecstatic in the crowd outside the concert, and you are ecstatic in the crowd inside. And if it's the other way round, then you've done a really great job parenting!
Shilparamam, on the occasion of the All-India Crafts Mela from 16th to 31st December, is organising a Carnatic vocal recital by Hema Venugopalan, this Sunday, the second day. Hema, along with Sivakrishna Swaroop on the violin and Prasad on the mridangam, will start the recital of the evening with a Varnam in Sri raagam, followed by Muthuswami Dikshithar's Maha Ganapathim in Nattai raagam, Sri Thyagaraja's Vasudevayani in Kalyani raagam, Ramadasa's Emayya Rama in Kamboji raagam, Annamayya's Palluvicharamu in Shanmukhapriya raagam, Purandara Dasu's Jagathadharana in Kapi raagam, and finally the Tillana in Kanthala Varali raagam.
Hema has been a disciple of Dr S K Venkatachary for the last 8 years, and has performed at Bijapur and Tirupati, in addition to various venues in Hyderabad like Kalasagaram, Sharada Bhakta Mandali, Hyderabad Maanagar Tamil Sangham and Andhra Balananda Sangham, besides providing vocal support for various dance ballets. She is also learning Kuchipudi under P B Krishna Bharati.
