The biggest cricket match this year in Hyderabad, is on.
The 3rd round of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match between Hyderabad and Mumbai will be played from 17th to 20th of December, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, under the aegis of the Hyderabad Cricket Association. 36-time Ranji champion Mumbai hasn't been able to get things together and is now at the bottom of the Group B table, with its previous two matches against Bengal and Punjab ending in draws after conceding first innings leads. On paper, it look strong with players like captain Amol Mazumdar and India discard Ramesh Powar on its side. But due to inconsistency, it hasn't been able to get good starts.
With its next two matches, also at home, against the strongest teams of Group B like Bengal and Punjab, Hyderabad will have to gather full points from this match. Having had a good start to its previous two outings against Maharashtra at Karad and Rajasthan at Jaipur, Hyderabad has done reasonably by picking up four points, on the basis of its first innings leads in both the matches. But due to complacency and lack of concentration by its bowlers, Hyderabad had to concede two points against a weak opponent like Gujarat, that too on home soil.
The in-form batsman and skipper Anirudh Singh, and A T Rayudu, Ravi Teja, D Vinay Kumar and Arjun Yadav, have all got runs this season, and so the onus is on them to set a big score in the first innings. In the bowling department, Pragyan Ojha, Narendrapal and Kaushik Reddy have all done exceptionally well this season.
