Saptaswara Cultural Organization is organising the Dakshina Bharatiya Sangeeta Navaratrotsavamulu from 2nd to 10th November, at the Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini-hall of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. The nine-day festival has two music concerts daily, featuring special kritis of the Music Trinity (Thyagaraja, Muthuswamy Dikshitar and Syama Sastry), specially Dikshitar's Navagraha and Navavarna kritis.
Today, the seventh day of the festival, T Chandrabhanu will be performing a Carnatic vocal, the first recital of the day at 6:15pm. She will be accompanied by O Rajashekar on the violin and A Srinivas on the mridangam. Chandrabhanu has been learning music since childhood, and has been giving concerts for more than 10 years now. Her first lessons in music were at Thirunalveli in Tamil Nadu, after which she learnt under the tutelage of Neti Srirama Sarma in Hyderabad. She also learnt under D Seshachari, one of the famed Hyderabad Brothers. She is a lecturer in the Andhra Mahila Sabha College and a 'B' graded artist of the AIR. She has given performances in most of the reputed sabhas in A P and other states.
The event is organised by Saptaswara, a cultural organization founded by K S R Balakrishna Sastry. He is a retired head-master who has also performed as an artiste on radio and TV, from 1952 to 2005. A disciple of Dr. M Balamurali Krishna, he has performed a number of times with him.
