Saptaswara Cultural Organization is organising the Dakshina Bharatiya Sangeeta Navaratrotsavamulu from 2nd to 10th November, at the Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini-hall of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. The nine-day festival has two music concerts daily, featuring special kritis of the Music Trinity (Thyagaraja, Muthuswamy Dikshitar and Syama Sastry), specially Dikshitar's Navagraha and Navavarna kritis.
Today, the sixth day of the festival, Dr. K Seshulatha will be performing a Carnatic vocal recital, the second recital for the day, starting at 7:30pm. Dr. Seshulatha is a B-High grade artiste of the All-India Radio, and a disciple of Voleti Venkateswarlu. She has completed her Ph D in music under Dr. Sripada Pinakapani, a vocalist. She has also done the Sangeeta Alankar course from the Gandharva University, and the Sangeeta Vidwan from the Madras University.
Dr. Seshulatha has performed in most venues in India, and has also been to the USA, the UK, Malaysia and Singapore. She has rendered her voice, along with Nedunuri Krishna Murthy, for the latter's audio cassettes, and has also composed music for Dr. Shobha Naidu's dance ballets. Currently she is a professor of music at the Telugu University, and also trains students for music diploma courses, at her residence in Ameerpet.
The event is organised by Saptaswara, a cultural organization founded by K S R Balakrishna Sastry. He is a retired head-master who has also performed as an artiste on radio and TV, from 1952 to 2005. A disciple of Dr. M Balamurali Krishna, he has performed a number of times with him.
