Saskia Laroo has nerves of steel and lungs to match. It is no small feat to announce to a community of dedicated jazz fanatics that in your next album you plan to emulate the legendary Miles Davis. It's like doing a Bob Dylan impression at Woodstock. Sheer lunacy. And, in Saskia's case, sheer guts.
Saskia Laroo's Jazzkia went on to woo music lovers of the bluest hue. Her impression of jazz music's king of cool was not only validated but also loved for its accuracy and keen ear for nuances. But playing the greats is only one part of Saskia's electrifying performance. Her own compositions are just as satisfying and in the words of one besotted critic, "intellectually charged".
Having played with other noted jazz artists like Teddy Edwards and Ernie Andrews, Saskia is now in India on a short tour of four cities. After her performances at the Jazz Yatra in Delhi and Bombay, she will be at Hyderabad two nights in a row.
