This is playing to win. 5 of the best theater groups of town are battling it out for a stage crown. And for us theater enthusiasts in town, it's a good glimpse of the local Telugu scene.
Vamsee Art Theaters International is giving away the late T Babu Reddy and T Rukminamma Millennium Stage Awards, sponsored by the T Subbarami Reddy Kalapeetham, on the 7th and the 8th of this month.
When the organization solicited applications for these awards, there were 21 theater groups applying from the twin cities and the Telangana region. They have selected 5 groups for a final screening. These groups will perform on these two days, and based on their performances, the awards will be finalized.
Cash awards of Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 3,000 will be given for the first and second best plays respectively. A gold coin and a citation will be given to the best writer, director, actor and actress of these performing groups. For having reached the preliminary screening, all the five groups will get a cash award of Rs. 3,000 each.
The five plays selected for the final screening are Pungadigadda written by Venkateshwar, Pratispanadana by M P Rao, Sandigdha Samaram by Veenapani, Abbe Emiledu by S Parthasarathy and Sagara Mathanam by C Satyanarayana.
The final screening process and the awards selection will be administered by Dr C Narayana Reddy, T Subbarami Reddy and Krishna Reddy (the Chairman of Capco).
