The Astronautical Society of India, along with Indian Space Research Organisation, is organising the 58th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), from 24th to 28th September, at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre of Hotel Novotel.
Being organised for the second time in India after the 39th IAC at Bangalore in 1988, this most prestigious event of Astronautics has about 2,000 delegates from 45 countries, like USA, China, Russia, UK, Japan and South Korea attending the annual congress.
In addition, 50 college students from all over India, selected from several thousands who competed in a contest organised by the ISRO, will present their technical papers. Selected papers from each International Astronautical Congress are published in the international journal Acta Astronautica.
Eminent speakers like Prof. U R Rao, Chairman of PRL Council of ISRO; G Madhavan Nair, Chairman of ISRO; Jean-Jacques Dordain, Director General of European Space Agency; Dr. Michael Griffin, Administrator of NASA; General Anatoly N. Perminov, Head, Federal Space Agency of Russia; Prof. Dr. Sun Laiyan, Administrator, China National Space Administration; Dr. Keiji Tachikawa, President, Japan Aerospace; Dr. K. Kasturirangan, former Chairman of ISRO; and Sunitha Williams, Astronaut of NASA, are going to speak on "Touching Humanity: Space For Improving The Quality Of Life."
The theme will focus on the growing use of space to improve the lives of humankind, and also provides an opportunity to discuss the many robotic and human space exploration activities that expand our knowledge of the universe and inspire the citizens.
A series of plenary events and lectures that focus on key topics of interest to the global space community will be held. The Congress will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the launch of the first artificial satellite, the 40th anniversary of the Outer Space Treaty, and the 50th anniversary of the International Geophysical Year.
