There will be times in life when you have to run really, really fast. The 10K Foundation's efforts to prepare people for that start really early.
The Hyderabad 10K Foundation will hold its second edition of the 10K Inter-Schools Athletics Meet on 17th and 18th October, at the Lal Bahadur Stadium. The 2-day event, which caries a prize money of Rs. 1 lakh, is being held under the initiative from Mission Sports.
The meet is to ensure constant sporting activity and create awareness among children. Over 2,500 school children will be participating, from schools aroud the twin cities. Apart from the prizes and medals for individual winners, the school which wins most number of medals will be given a trophy and a cash prize.
The events are:
Boys and girls under-16 (born on or after 19-10-1990): 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 2000m, shot put, long jump, 4x100m relay
Boys and girls under-14 (born on or after 19-10-1992): 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1200m, shot put, long jump and 4x100m.
Each school can send a maximum of 2 competitors per event and 1 team of four members for the relay run. The first three winners will be given medals and merit certificates, while the overall team championship (boys and girls together) will be determined by number of points that each school gets. However, the Best Athlete Award will be given separately in all age groups.
The teams can register their entries at the Nizam College ground or at the Post Graduate College, Secunderabad, or with Rajesh Kumar, at the Department of Physical Education, Nizam College, between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm.
The 10K Foundation is giving scholarships to 20 deserving sportpersons in different disciplines. There is also a proposal to adopt two more schools in Gajwel and Mulugu, where there are no sports facilities.
