Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, in association with Taj Luxury Hotels, is organising a Western classical music concert by the band Signum Quartett, on 17th September, at the Grand Ballroom of Taj Krishna. The band members are Kirstin Dill and Annette Walther on the violin, Simon Tandree on the viola and Thomas Schmitz on the cello.
Following successful performances in Chennai and Puducherry in 2006, the internationally renowned Signum Quartett now embarks on an extensive tour of South Asia at the invitation of the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan. The tour that started on 3rd September at Karachi, will culminate on 23rd September at Colombo, touring eleven cities in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The concert in Hyderabad will include pieces by Schumann Von Knorr and Webern, and will feature the first violin quartet by the young German composer Jorg Widman.
The members of Signum Quartett received their first lessons from Konrad Grahe and continued studyiong with the Melos and Alban Berg quartets. Shortly after its founding in 1994, Signum won awards at Jugend Musiziert, the youth music competition held in Germany, and at the Charles Hennen Concours in 1997. It also won the German music competition in 2004 as well as the special Zonta International award.
Signum Quartett has performed in Barcelona and Madrid at the Schubertiada a Vilbertran in Spain, the Ludwigsburger Festival, the Oberstdorfer Musiksommer, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival, the Salon of the Arts in Sofia, and the Rheingau music festival. Their concerts have been broadcast by various German and international radio and television channels.
