Saptaswara Cultural Organization is organising the Dakshina Bharatiya Sangeeta Navaratrotsavamulu from 2nd to 10th November, at the Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini-hall of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. The nine-day festival has two music concerts daily, featuring special kritis of the Music Trinity (Thyagaraja, Muthuswamy Dikshitar and Syama Sastry), specially Dikshitar's Navagraha and Navavarna kritis.
Today, the fifth day of the festival, Y Ramaprabha will perform a Carnatic vocal recital, the second recital for the day, starting at 7:30pm. Ramaprabha is a lecturer in music in the Andhra Mahila Sabha College of Fine Arts. She has done her M A in Music from the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University. She initially learnt music from Neti Srirama Sarma, and is now under D Seshachary, one of the famed Hyderabad Brothers. She has performed at various temples of AP - at Srisailam, Vemulawada, Yadagirigutta, Ramalayam, Sringeri, Skandagiri and Balaji Bhavan.
Ramaprabha has been a singer of the TTD Dharma Prachara Parishad since the last 20 years. She has also toured Dubai, and Birmingham and Midlands in the UK, for her concerts. She was awarded for composing a dance ballet called Tribhuvana Shakti, in the UK. Her ballet, Maitrim Bhajata, composed in 2004 for the silver jubilee celebrations of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Jubilee Hills), in which 92 singers and 150 dancers participated, showcasing important folk and classical dances of India, won her appreciation among the media, and among music & dance lovers.
The event is organised by Saptaswara, a cultural organization founded by K S R Balakrishna Sastry. He is a retired head-master who has also performed as an artiste on radio and TV, from 1952 to 2005. A disciple of Dr. M Balamurali Krishna, he has performed a number of times with him.
