On the occasion of the 5th Krishnakriti Annual Festival Of Art & Culture from 7th to 11th January, the Kalakriti Art Gallery, together with the Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, is organising an evening of poetry, on 11th January, at the Goethe-Zentrum office. In the session, Ranjit Hoskote will read from his new manuscript The Randomizer's Survival Guide, a suite of 80 poems that follows his Vanishing Acts: New & Selected Poems 1985-2005.
The Randomizer's Survival Guide brings together some of Hoskote's best poetry drawn from his three published collections, along with a substantial body of new poems. While continuing to explore the interplay between the epic, devastating sweep of historical events, and an intimate, often vulnerable, self, his new poems dwell on emigrants, fugitives, interpreters and double agents - survivors who walk the fragile border between eternity and transience.
Ranjit Hoskote is a poet, cultural theorist and independent curator. He has authored 13 books, written 5 studies of art and artists, published a translation, edited an anthology, and co-authored with the German novelist and essayist Ilija Trojanow, an alternative history of the confluences among cultures, an argument against the clash of civilizations.
Hoskote has been a Fellow of the International Writing Programme, University of Iowa (1995), and writer-in-residence at Villa Waldberta, Munich (2003). He has won the Sanskriti Award for Literature (1997) and the British Council / Poetry Society of India Annual Competition (1996). In 2004, the National Academy Of Letters honored him with the Sahitya Akademi Golden Jubilee Award.
The entry is free for everyone. Please contact Kalakriti Art Gallery at 6656-4466 or Goethe-Zentrum at 6652-6443/2324-1791 for further details.
