George Oommen is organising Visions Of Kerala, an exhibition of abstract landscape paintings, from 4th to 17th January, at the Shrishti Art Gallery. A traveling show, it was first exhibited in Delhi from 24th to 30th December before coming to Hyderabad, and will proceed to Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram.
In Visions Of Kerala, George has divided his display into two series, Monsoon Magic and Kanjeevaram Saris. A total of 40 works will be showcased at the gallery.
George Oommen is an architect and painter living in Massachusetts, whose paintings are entirely concerned with memories of his native village Mankotta, a spice coast and a small island in the inland waters of Kerala. With images of drenched pools, drizzled light, and designs and shades of Kanjeevaram silk saris, Oommen's art has underpinnings of geometry.
Born in Munnar, Kerala, and educated in India, Mexico and the United States, Oommen continues to derive artistic inspiration from the lush green landscapes of his homeland. Every winter Oommen visits Mankotta, ten miles from his ancestral home, and spends weeks there to generate ideas his paintings the year round.
