Sri Thyagaraja Gana Sabha, in association with Sadhana Sahithi Sravanthi Samyuktha, is organizing Mahakavi Gunturu Seshadri Sarma's first death anniversary meet on 30th May. This meeting is being conducted at Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, located in the premises of the Sri Thyagaraja Gana Sabha, Chikkadpally. Organisations like Kadhamitra and Kanwasa Grandhamala are also associated with this event.
The evening will be presided over by Aacharya Mudigonda Siva Prasad, and the chief guest will be Indraganti Srikanth Sarma. The memorial speech will be given by Aacharya Kasireddy Venkatareddy.
Seshendra Sarma (1927-2007), a rare combination of a poet and critic, was born on 20th October, at Nagarajupadu in Nellore District. His Mandé Suryudu (Burning Sun), Rakta Rekha (Arc of Blood) and the magnum opus Naa Desam Naa Prajalu (My Country, My People) are treated as benchmarks for modern Indian poetry.
He won the Sahitya Akademi award in 1994 for Kaala Rekha (Arc Of Time), which incidentally is not a poetry collection but comprises 25 critical papers presented in seminars on topics like ancient drama, comparative literature, classical poetry and modern writing. He is also the Hamsa Award recipient from the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The beautiful lines of Nidurinche Thotaloki Paata Okati Vacchindi from the film Mutyala Muggu is the only time he penned lyrics for a movie.
The special guests of the evening will be Acharya Poranki Dakshina Murthy, Kala Venkata Deekshitulu, Tanikella Bharani, Peddibhotla Subbaramayya, Acharya S V Satyanarayana, Girijala Narasimha Rady, Munipalle Raju, Ghantasala Nirmala, Sila Lolitha, Sila Veeraraju and Kondepudi Nirmala.
