The All-India Tennis Association, together with the Advantage Tennis Academy, is organising the All-India Talent Series Under-14 & Under-16 Tennis Tournament, for the 1st St. Thomas Cup, from 26th to 30th May, at the St. Thomas Sports Coaching Foundation in Neredmet. The matches will all be held in the knockout format, on the six clay courts at the academy.
In the under-14 years boys singles, B Supreet is the top seed, while P Prabhav is the top seed in the under-16 years boys singles category. A Sabatini is the top seed in both the under-14 and under-16 girls' singles categories. There will be both singles and doubles matches.
The participants, in addition to participation certificates, will stand to gain the valuable points. The winners will be awarded the St. Thomas Cup rolling trophy. This trophy, a two-and-a-half feet shield, will be given to any player who wins the tournament at least three times in one age category, over a period of ten years.
The Advantage Tennis Academy was established in 1985 by D Chandrasekhar, a NIS tenis coach and a tennis official who has been the manager of the Indian Davis Cup and officiated various tennis matches. The academy runs from St. Thomas Coaching Sports Coaching Foundation in Neredmet. Chandrasekhar's son, D R C Kiran, also a cricket and tennis player, coaches children at the academy.
Advantage Tennis Academy has produced several players of the past like Susheel Narla, Ramakrishna, Meghana Paritala, Arjun Vijay Raghavan, D R C Kiron, D S Shravya, Aditya Naidu, Shashikant Reddy and Abhay Edlabadkar, and current players like Ekta Singh, M Nishant, A L Anirudh, Jitesh Swamy, Alekhya, Pranav Teja, C Laxman and Archana.
