The South Indian Cultural Association (SICA), in association with the Tirumala Tirupati Devastanams (TTD) and the Department Of Culture, Government Of Andhra Pradesh, is organising the 600th jayanti celebrations of Saint Annamacharya, from 25th to 27th June, at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium. The 3-day celebrations will feature some very renowned music and dance artistes including Sweta Prasad, the Malladi Brothers, Dr. Anupama Kailash & Group, Garimella Balakrishna Prasad, Venu Madhav and the Priya Sisters.
Dr. Anupama Kailash & Group will be performing a Kuchipudi ballet on the 2nd day today, from 5:45pm to 6:45pm. Dr. Kailash will be accompanied on stage by Any Kumar, her student, and Vasantha. They will be performing to Annamacharya keertanas. The performance comprises of 3 stages, the first describing the deeds of the 4 gods of Vaishnavism - Krishna, Rama, Vishnu and Venkateshwara. The second segment talks about Sringara, which features songs collected with Nayakas. The third and final segment consists of songs with a philosophical connotation.
Dr. Kailash has been performing for over 20 years now, and has given more than 600 performances. She is a disciple of Dr. K Uma Rama Rao, and did her doctorate in Kuchipudi from the Central University, Hyderabad. She has performed in various locations, both in India and abroad. She is also one of the few performers of a very old Indian dance called Vilasini Natyam. She runs an institute called Anubhav, founded 6 years ago, and helps budding young artistes develop their skills in Kuchipudi.
