Expert Talk: Butterflies - Their Need For Conservation

Goethe-Zentrum, Hyderabad, is presenting a talk on the conservation of butterflies, by Dr. Shetty Tejkumar, at Geothe Zentrum, on 25th Nov at 6pm. The event is being organised in association with the Bird Watchers Society Of Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Shetty will talk about the conservation of endangered species of butterflies, and the steps that need to be taken to conserve them. The audience will get to know about various species of butterflies in the world.

Dr. Shetty Tejkumar, Entomologist Professor (retd.) at the Agricultural University of Hyderabad (ANGRAU), is Founder Secretary of the Birdwatchers’ Society Of Andhra Pradesh, and Founder Secretary of the Society For Nature Conservation. In 1995, he founded the Butterfly Conservation Society, of which he is the President. In August 2007, he organized the All India Butterfly Meet, where 109 species of butterflies were identified. Currently, Dr. Tejkumar has a checklist of 200 species of butterflies. He is working on a book, Butterflies Of Andhra Pradesh. Professor Tejkumar has taught lessons on butterflies on TV, and has been well covered by relevant newspapers such as The Hindu and the Deccan Chronicle. His aim is to 'protect the habitat of, and educate people on, butterflies.
