Shilparamam, as part of All-India Crafts Mela from 15th to 31st December, is presenting an evening of devotional kritis by Venkata Padmajavalli, on 19th December. Padmajavalli will sing some rare Annamacharya, Swati Tirunal and Thyagaraja kritis, such as Ani Alatiche Krishna in Hindola ragam, Idi Sirassu Manikya in Ramakriya ragam, Kalasapuramu Kada Kanduva Sesukuni in Vasantha ragam, Ramayanam in Ragamalika ragam and Taane Taane Enthati Guruvu in Suddha Saveri ragam.
Venkata Padmajavalli is a 59-year-old Carnatic vocalist with 40 years of singing experience. She learnt initially from her mother late Manga Tayarudevi, and thereafter from Sunanda Raghavan, a disciple of the legendary late M S Subbalakshmi. She completed her M A in music from the Andhra University in 1970, and M A in Sanskrit from Benaras Hindu University in 1982.
Padmajavalli worked for the TTD Annamacharya Project from 1970 to 1973. She has performed at many cultural venues across India, and sings at about 20 major temples of Andhra Pradesh every year. She was requested by the A P Endowments Department in 2003 to sing at 21 major temples of the state every year.
