The South-Indian Cultural Association (SICA), in association with the Tirumala Tirupati Devastanams (TTD) and the Department Of Culture, Government Of Andhra Pradesh, is organising the 600th jayanti celebrations of Saint Annamacharya, from 25th to 27th June, at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium. The 3-day celebrations will feature some renowned music and dance artistes including Sweta Prasad, the Malladi Brothers, Dr. Anupama Kailash & Group, Garimella Balakrishna Prasad, Venu Madhav and the Priya Sisters.
Sweta Prasad will inaugurate the proceedings on 25th June, with a Carnatic vocal performance, from 5:45pm to 6:45pm. Prasad started her journey into the world of music at the age of 4, receiving her first lessons in music from Ramalaxmi Rangachari, and thereafter from the renowned guru and musician Neti Srirama Sarma for 13 years. Impressing teachers and audiences alike, Prasad proved her skills in singing under the able guidance of Dr. Shobha Raju, founder president of Annamacharya Bhavana Vahini.
A gold medalist in Annamacharya kritis at national-level competitions conducted by the Annamacharya Bhavana Vahini, Prasad also took the top position on a number of occasions at music competitions conducted by famous organisations and sabhas.
Sweta Prasad has traveled extensively all over India, and has also performed in USA and Bangladesh, winning the appreciation of the audiences wherever she has performed. She has also sung as a playback singer for TV serials and movies, and has several music & dance cassettes to her credit.
Apart from traditional kacheris, Prasad also lends her rich voice to the world of dance, providing vocal support to renowned dancers like Dr. Shobha Naidu, Swapna Sundari, Vanisree Jai Rama Rao, Swati Somnath and Alekhya Punjala, and has performed in all parts of India and abroad, including Turkey, China, Thailand, Japan and Belgrade.
