Saptaswara Cultural Organization is organising the Dakshina Bharatiya Sangeeta Navaratrotsavamulu from 2nd to 10th November, at the Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini-hall of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. The nine-day festival has two music concerts daily, featuring special kritis of the Music Trinity (Thyagaraja, Muthuswamy Dikshitar and Syama Sastry), specially Dikshitar's Navagraha and Navavarna kritis.
Today, the seventh day of the festival, N C Parthasarathy will be presenting a Carnatic vocal recital, the second recital of the day starting at 7:30pm. He will be supported by N C Anantha Krishna on the violin, G Ramachandran on the mridangam and T P Balasubrahmanyam on the ghatam. Parthasarathy had his initial training from Sistu Prabhakar Krishna Murthy Sastry, and later on from one of the Hyderabad Brothers, D Seshachary. He is a B-High grade artiste of AIR, having given several performances in AIR and DD. He has performed at various music sabhas in Chennai, Mumbai, Vijayawada, Hyderabad and Kakinada.
Parthasarathy won a gold medal in the National Level Inter-University Music Competitions, in addition to several other prizes. He is currently working as a lecturer in vocal music at the Vasavi College Of Music And Dance, Hyderabad, and also runs a music institution called Sarani, in which he teaches music.
The event is organised by Saptaswara, a cultural organization founded by K S R Balakrishna Sastry. He is a retired head-master who has also performed as an artiste on radio and TV, from 1952 to 2005. A disciple of Dr. M Balamurali Krishna, he has performed a number of times with him.
