The sister-act seems to be the dominant morphology that musicians seems to be evolving into nowadays. Mambalam sisters, Hyderabad sisters, Sattur sisters, Priya sisters, and the list simply has no end. Ranjani and Gayatri are the latest in the brigade, a Chennai duo with voices as delightful as a flock of warblers.
They were born into the musical family of Sri. N.Balasubramanian and Smt. Meenakshi. They recieved their early classical vocal training from their mother. Soon they advanced to learning the Veena from Sangeeta Bhooshanam Sri T S Krishnaswami and vocal from Padmabhushan Sangeeta Kala Acharya Sri P S Narayanaswamy.
The two singers have the rare distinction of being graded A- in both classical and vocal on AIR.Their concerts, both violin and vocal are regularly featured in all prominant sabhas in the December Music Festival in Chennai, and at premier institutions all over the country. They have to their credit several album releases, both violin and vocal. Recent awards include the Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Award awarded by the Kalki Trust and the prestigious National Eminence Award given by the Shanmukhananda Sabha, Mumbai in the year 2004.
They will both be performing in a vocal concert on the 1st of February at 1830 hrs at Keyes High School.
