Saptaswara Cultural Organization is organising the Dakshina Bharatiya Sangeeta Navaratrotsavamulu from 2nd to 10th November, at the Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini-hall of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. The nine-day festival has two music concerts daily, featuring special kritis of the Music Trinity (Thyagaraja, Muthuswamy Dikshitar and Syama Sastry), specially Dikshitar's Navagraha and Navavarna kritis.
Today, on the penultimate day of the festival, S Neeta Chandrasekar will perform a Carnatic vocal recital, which will be the first recital of the day, starting at 6:15pm. Neeta Chandra Sekhar, B Sc, M A and M Ed, has learnt music from Sishtu Krishna Murthy from Machilipatnam, from M S Balasubramania Sarma from Rajahmundry, and from Sangeeta Kalanidhi Needulu Krishna Murthy. She has learnt to play the veena from S R Janaki Raman. At present, she is a lecturer of music in the Telugu University and is pursuing her doctorate under the guidance of Mridanga Samrat Padmasri Yella Venkateswarlu.
The event is organised by Saptaswara, a cultural organization founded by K S R Balakrishna Sastry. He is a retired head-master who has also performed as an artiste on radio and TV, from 1952 to 2005. A disciple of Dr. M Balamurali Krishna, he has performed a number of times with him.
