Nada Tarangam Trust is presenting its 2nd Annual Gokulastami Music Festival from 15th to 21st August, at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan auditorium, King Koti. The 7-day music festival will feature renowned Carnatic musicians like Neyveli R Santhanagopalan, U P Raju and Nagamani, Shreyas Narayanan, T V Shankara Narayanan, D Srinivas, Sanjay Subrahmanyan and Unnikrishnan in concert.
Today, the 5th day, popular veena artiste D Srinivas will perform a grand classical symphony cum jugalbandi recital along with V Nagaraju on the flute, Dwaram Satyanarayana Rao and Mangalampally Surya Deepthi on the violin, Kota Acchibabu on the clarinet, Nemani Somayajulu on the mridangam, P V Ramana Murthy on the ghatam, K Krishna Prakash on the kanjeera, Padala Narasimhulu on the dolu.
D Srinivas, once a child prodigy in the veena, was born in a family of musicians at Hyderabad. His mother D L Tulasi was a popular veena artiste, and having identified Srinivas' taste in and talent for the instrument, initiated and encouraged him to pursue and master the art.
Srinivas gave his maiden concert at the age of 9 for the All-India Radio, Hyderabad. He is a disciple of Vidwan N S Srinivasan, who was his guru and master architect, and who introduced him as an artiste with laudable individual traits. Srinivas was a scholarship holder from the Andhra Pradesh Sangeeta Nataka Academy for 6 years. He has participated in almost all the prestigious Gana Sabhas, and has been the recipient of many awards for his performances.
Srinivas holds the record of being the youngest A-grade veena artiste to play at the National Program of Music, relayed live all over the nation from the studios of All-India Radio, Hyderabad. He has also presented many a classical symphony concert, using Indian classical instruments.
He performed for the President of India, the Prime Minister of India, the Singapore Prime Minister, the Indo-German Business Summit, Japanese business delegates, the Mauritius Prime Minister, the World Bank President and the Indo-Asean Business Summit delegates, to name a few. He also has the titles of Veena Vidwanmani, Veena Praveena and Raga Sudhakara to his credit.
Nada Tarangam Trust was started on 16th August, 2005, by a renowned mridangam, ghatam and jaltarang artiste Nemani Somayajulu. Somayajulu is a senior artiste who has done his diploma in mridangam from the M R College For Music, Vizianagaram, in 1972, and has since accompanied many music vidhwans like Dr. Managalampally Bala Muralikrishna, Dr. Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana, Dr. Nedunuri Krishna Murthy, Dr. Chitti Babu, Dr. L Subrahmanyam, Dwaram Durgaprasad, the Malladi Brothers and Veena D Srinivas, to various parts of India. He has also presented a fusion concert of Jaltarang with mridangist Umalaypuram Sivaraman in the USA. He is probably the only male jaltarang player of Carnatic music in the world.
