Films about Nazi Germany never fail to make their presence felt, be it at the Academy Awards or at the Hyderabad Film Club. Here's another moving tale from The Holocaust.
The Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad, in association with the Hyderabad Film Club and the French Embassy in India, is screening a French film, The Strayed, on 13th March, at Sarathi Studios in Ameerpet. The movie is set in June 1940. German troops are advancing on Paris. Odile, a widowed teacher, succumbs to the widespread panic and, with her two children, joins the exodus from the city. Philippe is on the cusp of adolescence, little Cathy knows only that they are going South. After 50 kilometres, a German plane attacks, decimating the helpless refugees.
Odile and her children lose everything. A shaven-headed youth then appears from nowhere and leads them away from the carnage. His name is Yvan, he's 17 years old. Cut off from the rest of the world and living in confined quarters, Odile and Yvan find themselves confronted with their own desires.
The film is directed by Andre Techine, and has Emmanuelle Beart, Gaspard Ulliel, Clemence Meyer, Gregoire Leprince-Ringuet and Jean Fornerod in the lead characters. The screenings are open for everyone. For further details, please contact Alliance Francaise at 2770-0734/2770-0736 or Bh S S Prakash Reddy of the Hyderabad Film Club at 2373-0841/93910-20243.
