The best people teaching Tennis unfortunately aren't in India. These kids, however, make it look like they are.
The Advantage Tennis Academy is organising a state-ranking tennis tournament for boys and girls, at St. Thomas Sports Sports Coaching Foundation in Neredmet, from 29th September to 3rd October.
There will only be singles matches for boys and girls in the age category of Under-10, Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16. The matches will be played in four available tennis courts on a league-cum-knockout format.
The matches start at 8:00 in the morning, and the registration fee for participation is Rs. 150 per head. The last date for receipt of entries is 26th September. Participation certificates and special gifts will be given by the Academy to participants. The winners and runner-ups will be awarded with trophies.
Last year, the tournament was conducted in November at the Gymkhana Tennis Courts, and 171 players participated. This year, with the inclusion of the Under-10 age category, the entries are expected to cross 250.
The Advantage Tennis Academy was established in 1985 by D Chandrasekhar, a tennis official who has been the manager of the Indian Davis Cup and officiated various tennis matches. The academy runs from St. Thomas Coaching Sports Coaching Foundation in Neredmet. Chandrasekhar's son, D R C Kiran, also a cricket and tennis player, coaches children at the academy.
Kiran was a national player who rose to a ranking of 21 in India, and also played cricket for clubs at HCA leagues. He topped the exams for ITF coaches conducted by the Tennis Federation. Both father and son actively coach for tennis at the Academy.
