Wouldn't the kids be much more comfortable doing film numbers, you'd ask. That's exactly why they're gonna be patriotic and devotional, say these guys. We have to make them do it, because they won't do it themselves. So here's one more of the efforts of an organization that tries hard to mould the citizens of tomorrow into good ones, sometimes against odds.
Nachiketa Tapovan, a cultural organization that often organizes music competitions, yoga and meditation classes, summer camps, and residential camps for school-going kids, teachers and managers of the corporate sector, is organizing a music competition for school children called the "Talent Search - 2001".
Students between classes I and X can take part in the solo singing and group singing competitions. They can sing patriotic or devotional songs, and either in Telugu or in Hindi. The participants will be categorized into three groups - sub-juniors (1st-4th class), juniors (5th-7th class) and seniors (8th-10th class).
On the 27th morning at 9.30am the solo singing competitions will start for the sub-juniors, and will be followed by those for juniors at 12.30pm. For the group singing competitions on the 30th, the timings remain the same for the sub-junior and junior levels. And on the final day, i.e. 2nd August, both the solo and group singing competitions will be held, at 9.30am and 12.30pm respectively, for the seniors.
Participants in the solo singing competitions will not be allowed to bring any musical instrument, whereas participants in the group singing competitions can bring harmoniums and tablas. A minimum of 3 students and maximum of 5 students per team will be allowed to take part in the group singing competitions.
The prize distribution ceremony for the winners will be held on 15th of August, at the same venue.
