Music Lovers Association is a presenting a unique musical duet on the santoor and the sitar, called Stirring Strings, on 25th April, at Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini-hall of Sri Thyagaraja Gana Sabha in Chikkadpally.
The santoor will be played by Sampath K Acharya, and the sitar by A Srinivas Goud. Accompanying them on the tablas are P Madhusudan and K Mahesh Kumar. The duo will play some compositions on the Yeman Raag, Vilambhit Teen Taal, Dhrut Raag and Bhagyasree or Pahadi Raag.
Sampath K Acharya learnt the santoor from Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pt. Shankarlal and Pt. Satyanarayanan, and has 26 years of experience in playing the complex instrument. He works as a Junior Accounts Officer in A P Transco. He has performed at many places in India.
Srinivas Goud is a senior sitar player, with about 40 years of experience. He started learning the sitar at the age of 11 from Pt. Narayanrao Pant, and thereafter went to Pt. Atmaram Sharma. He has done his diploma in music from the Government College Of Music, Ramkote.
Srinivas won the music competitions of AIR in 1980, and received the titles of Koundinya Ratna, Kala Prapoorna and Sangeetha Ratna for his performances all over the country. In 1995-96, he provided music direction for two Telugu films, Film Nagar and Kanyasulkam. He teaches about 50 students at Narayanaguda.
