The Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival is back this year, and is being organized from 31st Oct to 7th Nov. It is conducted by the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation, and this year, the organisation has choosen two venues, HICC and Ravindra Bharathi, for the festival.
On Nov 2nd' 08, as a part of the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival, 'Raat Pholon Ki' is being staged at Ravindra Bharathi. Raat Pholon Ki has an actor (well-versed in Urdu) reading out his poetry on stage, and a classical dancer with a group performing fusion numbers to santoor-based music composed & played live on stage by renowned santoor player Rahul Sharma (the son of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma). It is a lyrical, aesthetic, hour-long production.
The play is conceptualized, produced & directed by Mohammad Ali Baig, and the music is composed and played by Rahul Sharma. The lights and sets are designed by M S Sathyu, the costumes are designed by Lakshmi Devi Raj, the actor is Arif Zakaria, and the dancer is Dr. Alekhya Punjla.
Mohammed Ali Baig established the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation in memory of his father Qadir Ali Baig, who was a doyen of Hindustani theater. It was established in an attempt at the revival of the Indian theater scene. The foundation has on board, danseuse Vani Ganapathy, artistes Rohini Hattangadi, Suhasini Maniratnam and Urmila Matondkar, lyricist Javed Akhtar and director M S Sathyu.
The foundation not only stages plays every month, but also imparts basic training in all aspects of theater, to nurture young talent. Begum Razia Qadir Ali Baig, wife of Qadir Ali, is the Chairperson of the foundation, Sathyu is the National Director, and Mohammad Ali is the President.
The event is presented by Karvy, and APTDC & ICCR are associate sponsors. Supported by SBH & SBI, the official host is HICC, and Deccan Chronicle is the media associate.
Entry is by ticket only, priced at Rs. 100, Rs. 250 & Rs. 500.
