Duryodhana chose Krishna's army over Krishna himself, and lost. There is no lesson to be learnt from there - you will never be offered that choice anyway. However, a boring evening can always be addressed.
On the occasion of its 29th anniversary, Kinnera Art Theatres is organising 29 days of Telugu stage dramas from different parts of the state, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, from 9th November to 7th December. As part of the celebrations, Srikrishna Rayabaram is being staged today.
Arjuna and Duryodhana both seek Lord Krishna's help for the battle of Mahabharata. Lord Krishna obliges and asks them to choose between himself, unarmed, and his mammoth army. Duryodhana takes the army and leaves the Lord for Arjuna.
Arjuna gladly agrees. With the wit of the Lord, Arjuna wins over Duryodhana and the Kauravas, and the rest is mythology. The sequence of events that lead to the wooing of the Lord by Arjuna and Duryodhana, is the Rayabaram, what the play is all about.
The drama is being directed by P Shekhar Babu and presented by Telangana Dramatic Association, Warangal.
Kinnera Art Theatres was started in 1977 and has since organised various programs, including musical nites, classical dances/vocals, felicitations and release of books. It served as a platform for many upcoming artistes, and at the same time provided the necessary recognition and appreciation for the established ones. Dr R Prabhakar Rao, IPS, is the chairman of the association, while M Raghuram is its dedicated secretary.
