Prompted by a newspaper story, Sound Barrier was fundamentally a tale of male courage in exploring the unknown. Exciting flying sequences marked this movie, which is the story of an ambitious aircraft factory owner who wants to design a jet plane that will pierce through the sound barrier.
The Sound Barrier was a great box-office success, and ranks high among David Lean's other movies like Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, Madeleine, Hobson's Choice, The Bridge On The River Kwai, Lawrence Of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago and A Paasage To India.
