There's a reason you should buy directly from the maker. With One Big Exception, the maker is usually approachable and accountable. Meet 500 makers directly this fortnight.
The Commissioner Of Women Empowerment And Self-Employment, Ministry of Rural Development, is organizing SARAS-2006, an exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts and handlooms, from 1st to 11th November, at People's Plaza grounds, Necklace Road.
The exhibition showcases products including handicrafts such as wooden toys from Kondapally, Etikoppaka and Nirmal; handlooms like Pochampally saris and Venkatagiri kalamkari and embroidery work; and fashion garments, herbal products, traditional Telugu food items, fashion accessories, various pickles, stone crafts, leather bags & belts, gloves, churidars, and nighties from Karimnagar and Medak districts.
About 500 participants from 23 districts are displaying products made by women of self-help groups (SHGs) like DWCRA. Reasonably priced, the exhibition is expected to enhance marketing linkages for these craftsmen and SHGs. Last year's edition of this exhibition had reported a turnover of Rs. 2.35 crores.
