The Konkani community in town has 2 annual get-togethers: one for Ugadi and one for Diwali. The Diwali one happens after Diwali, because, as Mr. Shenoi, the President, says, "Who'll come on Diwali?" So this time it's happening nearly a week after Diwali.
There's going to be a film music program by a troupe on the occasion, followed by a dance by an enthusiastic boy of the community. But the main attraction of the event is going to be a play called "Sankata Vimochan". First things first: this play is in Konkani, so get there only if you understand the language.
The play, a comic one-act drama lasting 75 minutes, has its script come from Dharwar in Karnataka. It's about the tenants of a landlord all staying close by. One of them is a musician who makes life miserable for his neighbours. They want him out of there, and hatch a plot to get that done, and there are many light moments as they try to do this.
There will be lunch at the end of the program, and this time it's free, so all ye Konkans out there, you know what to do this day, don't you?
