Rasaranjani, as part of its monthly Telugu theater programs, is presenting a social play called Punadhi, on 20th and 21st January, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. The play is written and directed by B P Prasada Rao and is presented by Vamsee Niranjan Kala Kendram, Hyderabad. Vijayavani as Anusha, Baby Indira as Indu, B P Prasada Rao as Neeraj, Venkat Rao as Kiran, C V S Sastry as Prithviraj and P Subba Rao as Eswar Prasad form the cast.
Punadhi (foundation) is about the family life of the husband-wife duo Neeraj and Anusha, their daily chores, conflicts and quarrels, misunderstandings and also happy times. Misunderstandings can occur over silly reasons too. Before they snowball into big ones, they have to be negotiated and nipped in the bud. But these serve as a foundation (Punadhi) in the life of a husband-wife and brings them more together. Plus, the experience of elders such as Eswar Prasad always comes handy.
Rasaranjini was established in March 1993, with a staging of the famous play Kanya Sulkam. In the 13 years since its inception, it has staged about 1,900 plays. It stages a play every month at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, to promote this neglected art form.
The association not only stages its own productions, it also gets groups from outside and pays for their staging. It also trains in acting and mime. K V Ramana, IAS, is its president. Most of the members are renowned theater personalities.
The entry to the play is by tickets of Rs. 10 only, available at the venue. For further details, please contact D Someshwara Rao at 94401-42266.
