If you've decided that no one can beat NTR at playing Lord Krishna, you've got more company than you'd have hoped for. Here's a whole organization that has been set up inspired by the mythological roles played by NTR. The Sri Vani Girija Sangeetha Nataka Kalasamithi was established in the year 1992 by Venkata Raju, a great fan of the thespian. Since then, this organization has been hosting a number of cultural events.
Venkata Raju, an artist himself, has played several character roles, and has hosted a number of Padya Natakas through this organization. Today, the organization is felicitating Devarakonda Venkata Pandu Ranga Rao for his outstanding performance in the field of classical music, and is honoring him with the title "Pauranika Nataka Karnataka Sangeetha Savya Sachi". Rao is also famous for singing 2000 Padyas (poems) non-stop for 24 hours in the year 1994 at the Sri Thyagaraja Gana Sabha, in a world record.
"Pandavodyogam", a part of Sri Krishna Rayabharam and scripted by the poet-duo Tirupathi Venkata Kavulu (famously known as 'Janta Kavulu'), will follow the felicitation function. Around 13 artists are participating in this Padya Natika, and the main character role of Duryodhana will be enacted by Venkata Raju himself. The other main roles are of Sri Krishna by Shyam Sundar, Arjuna by Siva Sankar Shastry, Yudhisthira by Ranganatha Murthy, and Karna by Krishna Shastry.
