Nasr Dramatic Society is presenting an English play, Ayn Rand's Night Of January 16th, on 25th November, at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium. The play is directed by Inderjeet Kaur and the cast includes Saher as Judge Heath, Mounika as District Attorney, Meghna Singh as Defence Attorney, Rashmi Shastri as Karen Andre, Nida as Dr. Kirkland, Mehak Gupta as John Hutchins, Avijeet Shastri as Homer van Fleet, Harsha Maheshwari as Elmer Sweeney, and several other characters.
Written in 1933, the play is an appraisal of man's relationship to existence. It is written in the genre of a courtroom drama, a murder trial, in which the jury will be drawn from the audience and vote on the verdict. On one level, Night of January 16th is a gripping drama about the rise and destruction of a brilliant and ruthless man. On a deeper level, it is a dramatic objectification of Ayn Rand's vision of human strength and weakness.
Night Of January 16th was performed earlier this year, at Samahaara's Hyderabad Theatre Festival.
