The ONGC-IBSF World Snooker Championship is in town. Organized under the aegis of the IBSF (International Billiards & Snooker Federation), it is being held at HICC, from 15th November to 25th November, by the Billiards & Snooker Federation of India. The matches will begin at 9am daily.
This mega championship, also dubbed as the "Olympics Of Cue Sports", is expected to witness participation from more than 250 top class international players from nearly 80 countries. The event is set to be the biggest ever in cue sports history, with 20 competition tables and 6 practice tables at the venue. SAIL, NMDC, Ultratech, GMR and SBH are some of the corporate houses that are sponsoring the Rs. 5 crore event.
The opening ceremony will feature a musical night by Gitanjali Rai (from Mumbai), among other celebrities. The 21st of November will be an official rest day, and a fashion show is set to be held then.
Participants will vie for the coveted Championship Title in the Men, Women and Masters formats. All the players who are competing at this championship are top ranked (No. 1 & No. 2) in their respective countries. The tournament will also see the participation of top ranked Indian players Geet Sethi, Pankaj Advani, Rupesh Shah, Yasin Merchant, Manan Chandra, Devendra Joshi and Aditya Mehta, among others.
The event will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of AP, K Rosaiah, on the 15th of November, at 9am.
