The Nasr School Dramatics Society is staging the famous English play, Fiddler On The Roof, on 18th November, at Sri Sathyasai Nigamagamam Hall. Fiddler on the Roof is a musical play, originally with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, based on the book by Joseph Stein, set in tzarist Russia in 1905. It is based on Tevye And His Daughters (or Tevye The Milkman) and other tales by Sholem Aleichem which he wrote in Yiddish and published in 1894.
The story centers on Tevye, the father of 5 daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope with both the strong-willed actions of his 3 older daughters - each daughter's choice of husband moves progressively further away from established customs - and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village.
The entry for the play is by tickets priced at Rs. 100 & Rs. 150 per head. Tickets are available at the Nasr School (Khairatabad), the Himalaya Book Depot (Punjagutta), and at the venue, on the date of staging. Please contact 2330-2615 for further details.
