Surprisingly, the chief guest here is male. Jokes aside, here's something Ghantasala would be proud of, even if his own voice is being challenged.
Rangamani Charitable Arts Academy is organising a musical program by women artistes called Mahilala Jeevana Samaramulo Cine Sangeetha Sambaram, on 3rd June at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. The program will have only women singers, singing some old numbers of Susheela and Bhanumathi - and also of Ghantasala, to show that they are no less than their male counterparts.
As the title suggests, even though the women of today are busy with their family responsibilities, office and work pressures, there is still space and time for music. This musical nite intends to highlight this, and so has roped in only women singers like Lakshmi Padmavathi, M Prasanna Lakshmi, Kanaka Durga, Padmini and Amantha, all AIR and TV artistes.
The chief guest for the evening is Padmabhushan Dr C Narayana Reddy. Y S N Sarma of Srikalanidhi and Voleti Rangamani (Kuchipudi dancer and teacher) are the other guests.
V Rangamani Charitable Arts Trust was established in April of 2007 by V L N Chariar, a 75-year old music composer, singer and anchor, in memory of his late wife Vangipuram Rangamani. V L N Chariar is a well-known personality in cultural circles. He has been in this field since 1952, and has been conferred upon the title of Raaga Visleshana Visharada by Dr C Narayana Reddy in 2002 for completing 50 years of music composing. The uniqueness about him is that he organises musical nites based on classical music ragas. He trains singers to sing a particular song in different ragas.
