Wouldn't you like to be able to lift a mountain, dance with thousands of beautiful girls and kill powerful but wicked rulers with ease? For Sanjay Kumar, it is all in an evening's work. Here's one more of them, and you're invited.
Sanjay Kumar, a Kathak expert working with the Railways for the past 12 years, started the Parampara Institute Of Dance And Music in 1996 with an intention to promote this fast fading art in South India, especially among the males.
Kumar is a dancer with in-depth knowledge of Kathak and other dance forms, too. He trained under renowned gurus like Rohini Bhate (Pune), Dr Puru Daheech (Indore), Vedantam Ramalinga Sastry (in Kuchipudi), Samrajyam Laxmi Ramana Rao (in Bharatanatyam), the late Protima Bedi (at Nrityagram, Bangalore) and Padmasri Kumudini Lakhia (Ahmedabad). He has about 20 years of experience in Kathak. He also has a PG Diploma In Theater Arts, and is currently undergoing training in Vilasini Natyam under Swapna Sundari, Delhi.
This evening Kumar will present a dance ballet called 'Krishna'. This is a ballet with a collection of songs of various composers. The ballet is choreographed in such a way that it covers Lord Krishna's birth, his childhood pranks, his 'Leelas', Kaliya Manthan, the lifting of the Mount Goverdhan, the quarrels between Radha and Krishna, and the Jayadeva Astapadi. The lead role of Krishna will be played by Sanjay Kumar, and he will be supported by his disciples.
