Would you like to have a taste of the food that was enjoyed by our freedom fighters? You can either head to the past, or to Novotel Hyderabad Airport, which is, hopefully, closer home. The hotel is celebrating 62 years of Indian independence by reviving recipes from the pre-independence era, when many states were not formed. The festival is on at its restaurants, The Square and Haldi, from 8th August to 15th August, for dinner.
At Haldi, the specialty Indian restaurant, food from all 4 regions (Saurashtra, Bengal, Deccan and Frontier) from the pre-independence era will be served as a buffet and a la carte. Each day, food from different regions in the country will be served - Saurashtra (Maharashtra and Gujarat) cuisine will be served on 8th and 9th August, food from the Bengal region on 10th and 11th August, Deccan (South India) specialities on 12th and 13th August, and food from the Frontier region (Punjab and Delhi) on 14th and 15th August.
The welcome drink, and soups and starters will be part of the a la carte menu, and the main course is offered in the buffet as well as a la carte, at Haldi. Some pre-independence era treats are Bengal Chicken Roll, Posto Bora, Mache Kalia and Khasa Mongsho in the Bengal menu; varieties of parathas and special dals in the Frontier menu; and Sambar, Pappu and Biryani in the Deccan menu.
