With the 'Very Very Special' Laxman donning the Indian National Team cap against Sri Lanka in the Test series, the Hyderabad Ranji team is missing his valuable experience, and is in dire straits, with the danger of being relegated to the plate division next year. The team is at the bottom of the group with just 4 points. In the match against the strong Mumbai team from 1st to 4th December at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, it needs to score an outright win in order to stay in the Elite Group.
Team Hyderabad's performance has not been up to the mark right from the beginning of the season. Even though bowlers M P Arjun and Alfred Absolem have been consistent and getting regular breakthroughs, the batsmen haven't been able to capitalize on their initiatives. Dashing opener, T Suman, who performed well for the Deccan Chargers in the CLT20 and is the 3rd highest run-getter in the Ranji, has been dropped on disciplinary grounds. Left spinner Lalith Mohan will be left out because of suspect bowling action in the last match. Captain N Arjun Yadav, and regulars Abhinav Kumar, Ambati Rayudu and Anoop Pai haven't been among the runs. With problems aplenty, Hyderabad has a big task ahead.
The Mumbai team under captain Wasim Jaffer has a strong squad that can decimate any team in any conditions. The team has a good concoction of powerful batsmen, all-rounders and bowlers. A difficult team to beat, considering the form in which they have been for the last 2 seasons. The team has many ex-Indian team members, including captain Wasim Jaffer, Rohit Sharma, Ajit Agarkar, Dhawal Kulkarni, Romesh Powar, Avishkar Salvi and Vinayak Samant.
