One way to stop directors like Ram Gopal Varma from making flicks is to become one yourself. Here's where Hyderabad's up-and-coming breed of filmmakers ought to gather.
The Hyderabad Film Club, in association with Andhra Pradesh State Film Television and Theatre Development Corporation Limited, is organising a 5-day short film and documentary film festival, from 24th to 28th September, at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium. More than a 100 short documentaries and short films will be screened during the festival in the competition and non-competition categories.
Films focusing on issues, themes, countries and the works of filmmakers will be screened. Apart from the inaugural and valedictory function, there are also discussion forums and interviews with directors and guests. There is a National Level competition for short films and documentaries, animation and campus films produced by students.
Cash prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
Short Films
First Best Film - Rs. 30,000
Second Best Film - Rs. 20,000
Best Director - Rs. 15,000
Documentary Films
First Best Film - Rs. 30,000
Second Best Film - Rs. 20,000
Best Director - Rs. 15,000
Best Animation Film - Rs. 10,000
Best Campus Film (Student Productions) - Rs. 10,000
Film Critics Award - Rs. 10,000
Viewers Award - Rs. 10,000
In addition to the above, there will be 3 jury awards. Entry to the festival screenings is strictly through delegate passes. These passes can be obtained for a fee of Rs. 100 for the entire period of the festival, and can be obtained from the festival office at Sarathi Studios on payment of cash/DD. You must also provide a stamp/passport size photograph.
