Daira is turning 10, and the mood is one of celebration, with the rains, in particular, being felicitated.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Daira Centre For Arts And Culture, the gallery is revisiting Barsanalagi, a group show that initiated the rains of 2002. This time round, Daira has invited artist Devasia Alexander, to recreate the monsoon song with his "Blue And Rain" series titled "Barsanalagi II". The exhibition opens up on 15th September, and continues till 30th September.
Devasia, who now lives and works in Germany, hails from Kerala. He is a well-known name in Germany, USA and India. He taught at the M S University of Arts, Baroda, and is a founder-member of the Indian Radical Painters and Sculptors Association, Kozhikode, in Kerala.
Devasia collaborates with his wife, Sylvie Bantle, a writer, in making several short films and documentaries.
The Rain/Blue series by Devasia Alexander illustrates his connection with the element water.
