The Hyderabad Literary Festival is launching Pavan Varma's book "When Loss Is Gain" on 16 January at the Taramati Baradari from 6:30pm to 7pm.
Pavan K Varma majored in History at St. Stephen's College. Then, he obtained a degree in law from Delhi University.
He, as a member of the Indian Foreign Service, has served in Moscow, in New York at the Indian Mission to the United Nations, in London as Director of the Nehru Centre, and in Cyprus as India's High Commissioner. At present, he is India's Ambassador in Bhutan.
Previously, he has authored Ghalib: The Man, The Times; Krishna: The Playful Divine; The Great Indian Middle Class; The Book Of Krishna; and Being Indian: Why the 21st Century Will Be India's.
He has also translated selected poems of Gulzar and Kaifi Azmi, and 21 poems by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, into English for Penguin.
"When Loss Is Gain" is his first fiction novel. It is the story of a man, wrongly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, who embarks on a journey to the remote Bhutanese retreat of Wangsisina. The story follows him and the way he deals with the misfortunes he faces in life.
