The Hyderabad 10K Run & the Half Marathon are being organized by the Hyderabad 10K Run Foundation, on 25th November, at the People's Plaza grounds. Being organised for the 5th consecutive year, this year's edition is expected to draw about 20,000 participants, including marathon runners from the Africa.
The 10K Run and the Half Marathon will start at 7:00am and 6:15am respectively, from the Poeple's Plaza grounds on the Necklace Road. The 10K run covers a distance of 10km around the Hussainsagar lake, and will be flagged off by the Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, while the Half Marathon will cover a distance of 21km, to the Charminar and back, and will be flagged off by the City Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh.
This year, the prize money is Rs. 15 lakhs. Participation is by registration charges of Rs. 125 per head, which get you a T-shirt with an allotted number and a participation certificate. Registration forms are available at all Apollo Pharmacies, MPM Mall, City Center Mall, Prasad's IMAX, Dinaz's Aerobic Studios, Medwin Hospitals, Hyderabad Central and Fresh@ outlets.
For the first time, the foundation has introduced Electronic Chip Monitoring by which you check the time you take to finish the run. These have been procured from South Africa, and are for one-time use only. They are fitted to the shoes of the runner, and are priced at Rs. 200 a piece.
The Hyderabad 10K Run Foundation is a Not-For-Profit organization registered under the Indian Trusts Act (an act of the Indian Parliament). It has been established with an objective of promoting health, fitness and sports, to work towards causes that effect lifestyle - pollution, traffic etc. - and to promote a wholesome lifestyle in the city. The Foundation gives scholarships of Rs. 2,000 per month to 25 students, and honors veteran sportspersons by giving them cash awards of Rs. 50,000 every year after the Hyderabad 10K Run & Half Marathon.
