Shilparamam, as part of the ongoing All-India Crafts Mela from 16th to 31st December, is organising a folk songs recital by the Vanisree & group today, the 13th day. Vanisree and her chorus comprising her students Shruthi, Kiranmayee, Anirudh, Abhishek, Neelima, Manikumari and Chakrapani, will be supported by Brahmanandam on the keyboard, B V Ramana Murthy on the dholak, Sai Teja on the tabla and Sai Charan on the rhythm pads.
Vanisree starts the evening with Pushyamasapu Sirulatho, followed by Yaada Ninnu Yethaka Bodhura, Okesi Puvvu Nee Sigana, Mayadari Mysammo Mysamma, Ugutha Ee Yela Vuyyala, Pannendu Dabbala Passengeru and more.
Vanisree is the founder-director of Sneha Bharathi Sangeeta Academy at Moosarambagh, through which she teaches Carnatic vocal, light and folk music, and the veena. She was born in a music family, with father Veerabhadra Sarma being a harmonium player, and mother Lakshmidevamma, a veena player. She initially learnt Carnatic music from her mother, and Narsaraju Bhagavathar. Later on, she learnt from various gurus like Nookala Chinnasatyanarayana and Bharathi Subrahmaniam.
She joined folk music and light music in 1987, under Gidugu Lalitha. She is a B-High grade artiste of the AIR, Hyderabad, for folk and light music. She was awarded the 1st prize in the R R District folk singing competitions in 1996. She has performed at various venues in Hyderabad including Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, Chikkadpally Venkateshwara Temple, Shankar Matham, Sanghi Temple, Ravindra Bharathi and Srisailam. She also plays the veena.
