Yuvakalavahini is organising an award presentation ceremony for renowned cine actor T L Kanta Rao, on 16th November, at Ravindra Bharathi. In recognition to his service to Telugu cinema, Yuvakalavahini will be felicitating and conferring upon the veteran actor the award, Sahasra Purnachandra Darshana.
Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajashekara Reddy is the chief guest for the occasion, and will be felicitating the actor, while Dr. Subbirami Reddy, Union Minister for Industries, will be presenting the golden bracelet. Dr C Narayana Reddy will be presiding the event. Vijaya Nirmala, Gummadi Venkateshwara Rao, Kaikala Satyanarayana and Giribabu are the other cine stars sharing the dias and conveying their wishes to Kanta Rao.
On this occasion, a musical nite called Kanta Rao Cine Geetala Lahari will be presented to the audience by amateur and professional singers like D A Mitra, Surekha Murthy, Balakameshwara Rao, Muralidhar and Amani Reddy.
Kanta Rao, born in 1923, was a popular actor in Telugu films of yesteryears. Having donned roles of mythological and folklore heroes, he was awarded the prestigious Raghupathy Venkaiah Award by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh in 2000, for his outstanding contribution to Telugu cinema. His career in Telugu cinema spanned a period of more than 50 years, with him having acted in a number of different films like Nirdoshi (1951), Jayasimha (1955), Mangalyam (1960), Bhatti Vikramarka (1960), Sri Seetha Rama Kalyanam (1961), Sri Krishnarjuna Yuddham (1963), Lava Kusa (1963), Narthanasala (1963), Chikkadu Dorakadu (1967), Bala Bharatam (1972), Muthyala Muggu (1975), Mugguru Monagallu (1994), Kabirdas (2003) and many more.
